The time is right for the spring plowing.

Xinjiang

Cotton planting households and cotton planting units are ready to welcome the spring sowing work.

According to investigation by relevant departments, the cotton planting area in Xinjiang is expected to be further reduced this year, but in some areas, there is a scene of returning grain and planting cotton locally.

What is the truth?

Since 2015,

Cotton grower

The decline of cotton yield has intensified the adjustment of planting structure in various regions of Xinjiang. On the one hand, the cotton area has been reduced appropriately, and on the other hand, the planting area of trees, fruits, grains and vegetables has been expanded.

In 2015, with the cooperation of cotton planting and cotton planting units, the Xinjiang local and military corps had overcompleted the plan to reduce the area of cotton.

In 2016, Xinjiang continued to implement the reduction plan, and the cotton planting areas also set the expected targets successively.

However, the implementation of this year's reduction plan seems to be facing greater resistance.

Monitoring system survey shows that in 2015 Xinjiang cotton sown area was 30 million 998 thousand mu, down 8.7% compared to the same period last year.

It is understood that this year's southern Korla, Pu Hui Township and other cotton planting areas planted area decreased by 9.5%, the intention to reduce cotton planting is mainly due to water shortage.

Due to the lack of effective irrigation, local cotton production has been severely reduced, cotton farmers' income has been greatly restricted, and the local groundwater is alkaline, which is not suitable for irrigation water. Therefore, this year's adjustment area is more determined.

However, in other parts of Korla, there has been a situation of grain loss and cotton growing.

A large cotton farmer said he owned 1000 acres of land. In 2015, he planted 100 mu of cotton and 900 acres of peanuts. Because of the sluggish market conditions and the high cost of planting peanuts, he finally lost his wife.

The cotton grower believes that there is a greater risk of replanting other crops, and there is no government subsidy to protect it. Blindly following the wind is facing great risks. Therefore, this year's plan is all planted.

Cotton farmers also said that this year plans to reduce the area of grain crops and increase the area of cotton planting.

A cotton specialist in Xinjiang said that according to the above situation, although the area of cotton planting in some towns in Korla declined, the total cotton planting area may remain unchanged compared with last year.

At present, the spring sowing campaign is about to start, leaving little time for cotton farmers to prepare, and the sowing area of cotton in Xinjiang will soon come to light, and will continue to pay attention to spring sowing.
